The Room is an immersive, horror-adjacent sensory virtual experience that utilizes rigid-body tracking to map physical movement across a series of vertically stacked, unsettling environments. Structured as a subterranean descent, the experience employs an internal timer—functioning as a conceptual elevator—to systematically drop participants through four distinct domestic spaces, each intensifying in psychological dread.




Virtual Camera

We created a blueprint actor that can control the movement and rotation of the virtual camera. The blueprint actor has a LiveLink controller, and directly references a CineCamera actor in the scene. This ensures that the camera is facing the right way and that the orientation of the real-life movements translates properly into the virtual scene.

With this method, even if the camera is being controlled by the LiveLink, moving the blueprint actor will allow us to move/adjust the whole camera within the virtual space.





Level Streaming

The elevator is the main motif of the story, so it is placed in the Persistent Level. Using Level Blueprints, the Persistent Level will handle the opening/closing of elevator doors as transitions between rooms. Each transition will move the camera back to the inside of the elevator while the rooms switch out. The level also has all of the lighting and Camera Actor as well.
